9:30-10:00AM – Riders gather at our meet-up location:
Intersection of the Iron Horse Trail and Owens Dr.,
adjacent to the Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station
5801 Owens Dr
Pleasanton, CA 94588
Map to start/parking location: here
Those who drive can take the Hacienda Drive exit from I-580 to Pleasanton, and from Hacienda Drive, turn right onto Owens Drive. Once on Owens Drive, skip past the first BART station entrance, then turn into the second entrance, and immediately make a sharp left to reach the area next to the Iron Horse Trail.
Those who take the train should exit the station and turn to the right. The Iron Horse Trail passes directly in front of the station and it leads to our meeting spot.
10:00AM-1:00PM – 26.7-mile Group Ride The majority of the route is on bike paths separated from automobile traffic (Iron Horse Trail, Arroyo Mocho Trail, and South Livermore Trail). There is a 1.5-mile stretch on Arroyo Road between Holdener Park and Syamore Grove Park which is a public road without a bike lane. We also have 0.3 miles on Vallecitos Road without a bike lane.
The total elevation gain is 590 feet. The steepest climb is a hill with a 4.7% grade on the South Livermore Trail at the approach to Holdener Park.
There are several public restrooms and water fountains along the route.
We have a coffee break at Best Donuts (mile 8) and lunch at Da Boccery (mile 19). Da Boccery has covered outdoor seating where we are allowed to park our bikes.
The ride starts and ends at the Dublin-Pleasanton BART station where there is plenty of free parking and access by train for those who don’t drive. The Iron Horse Trail passes through the station and parking lot.
We will ride the Iron Horse Trail through Pleasanton to Livermore where the Arroyo Mocho and South Livermore Trails will take us through public parks and the vineyards of Livermore’s wine country. After our lunch on the edge of wine country, we return to the BART station via Vineyard Avenue and the Iron Horse Trail..
